About
With experience working across a variety of industries, I'm excited about creating positive and thoughtful human-centered experiences in the world of UX. I'm passionate about creative problem solving, and have spent the last four years exploring the role of design and research in creating good in the world. This journey has led me through applied mathematics research (national security), statistical programming research (cancer clinical trials), graphic design & marketing (sustainability- & accessibility-focused architecture), and finally to UX. 50% creative, 50% analytical, and 100% INFJ-T, I love to listen and practice empathy in order to to better understand the people and world around me.
I earned bachelors degrees in Studio Art and Mathematics from St. Olaf College, growing a love for both creativity and experimentation, as well as a detail-oriented, research-driven mindset. Since then, I've had the opportunity to practice collaboration and communication, working alongside experienced mathematicians & data scientists, statisticians & healthcare professionals, and designers & architects — all in the context of creating a product or experience to better serve the end user. Along the way, I learned about the formal practice of UX and was immediately drawn to its interdisciplinary nature, incorporating many of the things I love (such as design, research, iteration, experimentation, collaboration, and empathy), fundamentally through the lens of improving the human experience and helping others. I recently graduated from an immersive, full-time UX program through Prime Digital Academy, and am currently working on new digital products as a UX/UI designer & researcher at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
When I'm not designing, you'll find me playing tennis, bouldering, trying not to fall off my mountain bike (with mixed results), or at the beach playing frisbee with my dog (and best friend) Riley.

ACCESSIBILITY FUNDAMENTALS
Designing with accessibility in mind needs to be a part of the UX process from start to finish — and everywhere in between. I’ve loved learning about some of the different ways that people experience digital spaces and how such experiences should impact and inform the design process. I’m excited to continue learning about and growing in this area of UX as new technologies and best practices further develop and emerge.

WHITEBOARD DESIGN PRACTICE
Designercize is a random prompt generator for whiteboard design practice. Some prompts are more comical while others are more practical; most recently, I tackled a challenge to create a settings view for a to-do app to help dog walkers. I loved having the opportunity to set aside some time to think about and create a solution to help dog walkers like my own dog Riley’s!

DESIGN PODCAST
My childhood dream was to be an architect and goat farmer; while I’m pretty far from being a goat farmer today, I love seeing and exploring how design transcends both physical and digital boundaries to shape the world we live in and experience every day.
